05.
Camp Miriam

Gabriola Island, British Columbia

Summer 2024

Time Frame: 5 Weeks
Team: Myself, Ed Craig (Lead Architect)
Status: Estimated Completion April 2025

Project Description:

This project was an extension of an existing dining hall for the Habonim Dror Camp Miriam sleep-away camp. The scope of work consists of a basement level boat storage and upper level dining area, as well as a new staircase and a-frame overhang. Additionally, concrete stairs and a garbage enclosure were designed as part of the project. This project was designed under the direction of Lead Architect Ed Craig at Johnston Davidson Architecture. The new additions are made from structural glulam beams, joists, and columns, and were designed not only to be cost effective and structurally sound, but to mimic the surrounding forest environment. The new outdoor dining and concrete stair additions allow the campers to have meals while breathing in the fresh island air and have events and gatherings in the respective spaces, including games and performances.
