LeafLine
Vancouver, British Columbia
Fall 2024
Time Frame: 6 Weeks
Team: Solo
Status: Hypothetical
Project Description:
This project was designed as an
urban-scale remedy to various problems within the current University Endowment Lands, which house the University of British Columbia, Pacific Spirit Regional Park, and several neighborhoods. The problems identified were threefold: Firstly, a lack of affordable housing for students. Secondly, a massive campus with little transportation options besides walking. Third, a lack of cheap and nutritious food options for students to eat.
The design for LeafLine presents a solution in a neighborhood where all of a student's needs are within their community. A central urban farm and market keeps students fed and engaged, and a large plaza with shared bike and scooter stations lets students transport themselves around campus with freedom and ease. The community is tied directly to the adjacent UBC Bus Loop and Pacific spirit forest through clever circulation, allowing residents to experience the best of city and natural life.

The Problem: UEL residents experience long distances between aspects of healthy living
The Solution: everything students need right at their doorstep

The UBC Bus Loop acts as a catalyst, for LeafLine, as arriving guests walk across Wesbrook Mall to grab a scooter, bike, or a bite to eat and head towards their next destination

The Project is indigenous by design, following guidelines set by the Musqueam Indian Band for architectural aesthetics and materials that honor the local culture
